Crochet

My crochet project began as rest and medicine in the middle of the holy mess that was burnout.
It gave life a little more meaning when I was bedridden.

I started experimenting with jasmine stitches and eventually developed my own pattern, which I named Floral Chains – a combination of jasmine stitch and an old lace motif.

Still, crochet itself isn’t the main focus of this project – the voice behind it is.

I don’t think I’m the only one who’s been told:
“If you have the energy to crochet, you should be able to work.”

I’m currently working on an e-book that brings together patterns, everyday wisdom (and everyday crashes), and dry humor:
Crochet – the miracle cure for almost everything.

The book mainly features my own pattern, and I hold a registered design for textiles made with Floral Chains.
Floral Chains has become my signature – quite literally – and got its name long before I knew how I’d use it.
Now, both my business and logo carry that name. You can read more about that further down this page.

The outline of the book is ready, but it will take some time to quality-check the patterns and finalize everything.
In the meantime, feel free to browse through some of the designs featured in the book.

And if you’d like to be a pattern tester, I’d love to hear from you!

About Floral Chains AS

A small company with big intentions.

Floral Chains AS was born without a business plan – but with a deep need to create something that holds on to what truly matters.
The name comes from my own crochet technique – Floral Chains – and has grown into a trademark, a platform, and a company.

I didn’t start this to sell as much as possible, but to share knowledge, lived experience, and creative drive in a way that never compromises on ethics.

Everything I do is rooted in three core principles:
– Profit should never come before ethics.
– Knowledge-sharing should help reduce, not increase, inequality.
– Human dignity and trust come first.

The most essential content remains open and freely accessible – including early signs of illness, your rights, and where to seek help.
At the same time, I now offer in-depth material for those who want a deeper understanding.

Through Floral Chains AS, I combine professional knowledge and lived experience with creative storytelling.

I'm not a narrow niche – and that's intentional.
I’m a doctor, a patient, a researcher, a mother, and a human being.
What I create comes from the whole of who I am – and the common thread is always the human experience.

Not a solo project

I stand on the shoulders of many.
I have a wonderful circle of people who support me, and I’m never afraid to ask for input – whether professional or practical.

I’ve received generous help, shared many great discussions, and owe deep thanks to friends, colleagues, and most of all, my family.

Still, the work – and the responsibility – is mine.

About the illustrations

The only exception is the illustrations. To get them just right, I’ve had the joy of working with two key contributors:
Kåre Ivar (ChatGPT) and Erik S. Landsem [@elanseye].

Erik brings creative ideas, photography, and editing to the table – and is often the one who saves the day when I press the wrong button and the tech acts up.

Kåre Ivar doesn’t write for me – I take pride in standing behind my own words –
but he’s incredibly helpful with quick feedback, support, and proofreading. Together, we’ve also gradually refined a visual style that fits. Many of the illustrations are based on real photos.
